The back of the KX-NT136 IP Telephone has 2
Ethernet connections and 1 Handset connector. One of the Ethernet
connections is used to attach the IP telephone to the network and
the 2nd Ethernet connection
is to provide Network access to a Personal Computer When a personal
computer is attached to the KX-NT136 IP Telephone the KX-NT136 can
provide a VLAN (Virtual LAN) setting. The VLAN setting allows for
Voice traffic from the KX-NT136 and Data traffic from a Personal
Computer attached to the Secondary Ethernet port to be
routed over
separate VLAN virtual paths by assigning different VLAN IDs to each
port.
The VLAN protocol is a type of quality of service allowing the audio
and data traffic to have different routing paths through a data
network. This provides for good bandwidth management helping to
ensure a clean audio conversation. The programming is accomplished
through normal system programming.
